Drafted in as an additional composer at a later stage of the project, I helped the director to develop his own melody into a full piano suite.
The haunting theme could be used throughout the film score to support the story and transport viewers into the difficult world of the protagonist, Claire.
When I joined, there was already a soundscape designed for the film and it was important that the piano suite both worked with and elevated this.
The director was keen to lift the film with the inclusion of a piano melody, particularly to emphasis the core emotionally-fuelled moments.
To this end, I focused on a composition that was not a straight rhythm but off-beat and jagged in style, using swirling arpeggios to give a disorientating feel that matched the soundscape, heightening tension and driving the narrative forwards.
